Supporting Your Clients With Sustainable Behaviour Change

Allied Health Professionals

As an Allied Health Professional, you regularly work with clients who know what they need to do — but struggle to do it consistently in daily life.

They understand the exercise program.

They know the nutritional advice.

They agree with the treatment plan.

Yet real life gets in the way.

Health & Wellness Coaching is designed to help bridge that gap.

Through structured, one-to-one coaching conversations, clients are supported to better understand their behaviours, identify barriers, build supportive routines, and develop practical ways to follow through on what matters most.

The goal is not to replace clinical care.

The goal is to help clients implement it.

A Behaviour Change Perspective

My coaching is grounded in a simple belief:

**Behaviour makes sense when viewed in context.**

Many people don't struggle because they lack information.

More often, they are navigating:

• competing priorities

• busy schedules

• stress and fatigue

• disrupted routines

• environmental barriers

• low confidence or self-trust

• years of unsuccessful attempts at change

Rather than encouraging people to simply try harder, coaching helps uncover what is influencing behaviour and design support that fits real life.

Where Coaching Can Help

Health & Wellness Coaching may be valuable for people who:

• understand what they need to do but struggle with implementation

• have difficulty maintaining behaviour change between appointments

• repeatedly start and stop healthy routines

• feel overwhelmed by competing demands

• struggle with consistency, follow-through, or self-management

• would benefit from additional support alongside their existing care

Common areas of focus include:

• physical activity and exercise adherence

• nutrition habits

• sleep routines

• stress management

• alcohol and lifestyle behaviours

• long-term behaviour maintenance

How Coaching Complements Your Work

Coaching does not replace professional advice or treatment.

Instead, it can provide additional support around:

• translating recommendations into daily action

• identifying barriers to implementation

• building realistic routines and structures

• maintaining engagement over time

• adapting when life becomes busy or unpredictable

• strengthening self-trust and ownership

The intention is to help people integrate behaviour change into everyday life rather than relying on motivation alone.

 What Coaching Is (and Isn't)

Health & Wellness Coaching is:

• behaviour-change focused

• client-centred and collaborative

• grounded in evidence-informed coaching principles

• focused on practical implementation

• delivered confidentially and ethically

• designed to support sustainable lifestyle change

Health & Wellness Coaching is not:

• medical diagnosis or treatment

• psychological therapy or counselling

• nutritional prescription

• exercise prescription

• a replacement for professional healthcare

Clients are encouraged to maintain ongoing relationships with their healthcare providers throughout the coaching process.

How Referrals Typically Work

1. An Allied Health Professional identifies a client who may benefit from additional behaviour-change support.

2. Coaching is introduced as a complementary service.

3. The client chooses whether they would like to explore coaching further.

4. A no-cost introductory conversation is arranged to discuss the client's situation and determine the most appropriate next step.

5. Depending on the client's needs, this may involve a Behaviour Clarity Session or the 12-Week Coaching Journey.

6. Coaching proceeds independently, while healthcare and allied health support continue as usual.

Where appropriate, and with client consent, I am happy to collaborate around shared goals and support continuity of care.

Why Allied Health Professionals Refer to Coaching

Allied Health Professionals often value coaching because it can:

• provide additional behaviour-change support between appointments

• help clients apply recommendations in daily life

• complement rehabilitation, exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle plans

• support reflection, accountability, and follow-through

• encourage long-term behaviour change efforts

• help clients develop greater ownership of their health

Referral Options

My coaching is calm, structured, and non-judgemental.

The Behaviour Clarity Session provides a practical starting point when a client understands what they need to do, but is struggling to consistently follow through.

Behaviour Clarity Session

A one-off coaching conversation designed to help individuals better understand what's getting in the way, and the habits, behaviours, and influences contributing to it.

The session explores what may be getting in the way, identifies possible barriers to implementation, and helps clients develop greater awareness of the factors influencing their behaviour.

Following the session, the client receives a personalised Behaviour Clarity Session Summary outlining key observations, reflection questions, and a suggested experiment.

12-Week Coaching Journey

For individuals who would benefit from ongoing support, the 12-Week Coaching Journey provides a structured coaching process focused on creating sustainable change over time.

The journey helps clients build supportive routines, strengthen self-trust, adapt to challenges, and develop behaviours they can maintain beyond coaching.
